Civil Defence Volunteer Information and Advice

Services

Civil Defence is a Statutory Auxiliary Emergency Volunteer Service with volunteer members coming from all walks of life. The main function of Tipperary Civil Defence is to provide a second line emergency service and support to the Principal Response Agencies (PRAs) such as the Local Authority (Fire Service), Gardai, HSE and National Ambulance Service (NAS) in the event of a Local or Major Emergency and in addition to provide when & where possible a Community support Service.

Administration

Tipperary Civil Defence a section of Tipperary County Council, operates under the Directorate for Planning & Development, Emergency Services and Emergency  Planning. It is managed daily by the Civil Defence Officer with support from the Assistant Civil Defence Officer.

Becoming a Volunteer Member:

Membership of Civil Defence is open to all persons from 18 years of age.

All persons who wish to join Civil Defence must complete the required application form and Garda Vetting process, after which they will complete their mandatory training programme.

Training: 

The following training courses are available to Tipperary Civil Defence volunteers, subject to availability length of service and at the discretion of the Civil Defence Officer. Please note that some of these training disciplines only become available to volunteers once they have completed their required mandatory training requirements.
