Tipperary Age Friendly Programme
Tipperary County Council is part of Ireland’s national Age Friendly Ireland shared service, hosted by Meath County Council. This initiative supports older people through local strategies aligned with the World Health Organisation’s Global Network for Age Friendly Cities and Communities. Ireland is the first country where all local authorities have committed to this framework.
Key Components of the Programme:
Age Friendly Alliance: A high-level interagency group chaired by the local authority CEO, involving key stakeholders from health, education, transport, and business sectors.
Older People’s Council (OPC): A citizen-led forum chaired by Mary McMahon, enabling older people to co-design local solutions and represent their voices at both local and national levels.
Programme Manager: Fiona Crotty leads the coordination of age friendly initiatives in Tipperary.
Technical Advisor: Liam Ryan provides expertise on age friendly housing and public realm design.
Healthy Age Friendly Homes Coordinators: Tracey Thompson and David Whelan support older people to live independently through home visits and personalized support plans.
Age Friendly Ambassador: John Lonergan promotes awareness and engagement with the programme locally.
