It is a great honour and privilege for me to serve as Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council 2024/25 and I vow to work tirelessly towards the betterment of Tipperary and its citizens.

I am ambitious for Tipperary and intend to us the role as Cathaoirleach to make positive, innovative and decisive impact to our great county.

Growing up at the foot of the famous Rock of Cashel, I developed a deep appreciation and passion for Irish tourism. Tipperary is bursting with tourism potential. Our rich heritage, food, sport and landscapes can be showcased at the highest level and enjoyed by large amounts of visitors. I will work tirelessly to build on our strategic partnerships and investment in tourism infrastructure, aimed at enhancing Tipperary’s unique tourism offering, showcasing our natural wonders, historical sites, and cultural experiences.

Recognising the importance and pressing need for affordable and accessible housing is crucial, I am committed to meeting housing targets within Tipperary.

The squeezed middle must no longer be the forgotten segment when discussing the housing crisis. Schemes like the ready to build programme in Boherlahan must be replicated and delivered across the entire county. Tipperary County Council has championed that scheme nationally, and we must continue. Local authorities must utilise the Government’s Housing for All programme to best of their abilities, but it needs to be backed by ambition and resources by the Government.

I am keen on opening the office of Cathaoirleach to the wider community. As a young, elected representative and now first citizen of our county I want our council to be reflective of our society. It’s important for this local authority to continue to be ambitious, to meet the challenges head on and drive our great county forward.

Finally, I will do my best to work hand in hand with all the elected members and indeed our public officials in best interest of Tipperary County Council, our set objectives and our county.

Thank you,

Declan
