Tipperary County Council is preparing a new Local Area Plan for Carrick-on-Suir, which will set out the land use strategy for the town to ensure the town can grow, support employment and homes and can do so sustainably and successfully.

There are three stages to the Local Area Plan making process as follows:
Stage 1: Pre-Draft Stage – This stage is now complete and the details of this stage can be found here. The submissions received during the Pre-Draft Stage have informed the Draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan.
Stage 2: The Draft Local Area Plan – This stage is now complete. The Draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan 2025-2031 and all accompanying reports were on display from Friday 25 October 2024 to Monday 09 December 2024. A public consultation drop-in event was held at Carrick-on-Suir Library on Wednesday 13 November 2024.

Stage 3: Material Alterations of the Draft Local Area Plan - We are currently at this stage.
It is proposed to make material alterations to the Draft Local Area Plan. The Proposed Material Alterations are published with the associated environmental screening reports and the public consultation period is open from Friday 28 February 2025 to 4pm Monday 31 March 2025.
Written submissions or observations with respect to the Proposed Material Alterations and associated SEA and AA Screening Reports and Determinations may be made no later than 4.00 p.m. on Monday 31 March 2025. Submissions or observations received during this period will be taken into consideration before the making of any material alteration.
