Tipperary County Council is delighted to announce that Tony Kirwan Civil Engineering Ltd. has been awarded the works contract for Phase 2 of the Carrick-on-Suir Regeneration Plan. The contract was signed on the 1st of December 2025 at Carrick on Suir Municipal District Offices, New Street, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary.
The €2.9 million project is funded by the Rural Regeneration Development Fund and Tipperary County Council. This project is an integral part of the overall “A Journey from the Suir Blueway to Ormond Castle Quarter” €17.9 million RRDF funded project.
This project has been shaped and refined over several years through invaluable support and collaboration from multiple stakeholders. Extensive public consultation has played a key role in influencing and guiding the design of the scheme.
Malachy Walsh & Partners, Engineering and Environmental Consultants, and Nic de Jong Architects are the Design Team for this project.
Phase 1 of the Regeneration Plan was completed earlier this year and Phase 3 incorporating repurposing a former derelict site into a new Enterprise Centre will be completed in Q1 2026.
Phase 2 of the Regeneration Project will focus on improvements to Chapel Street, William Street, Castle Lane and part of North Quay and Castle Street.
The physical works include construction of new road carriageway, new footpaths, new public lighting, line marking and associated landscaping. In addition, services and utilities will be upgraded to support both current and future needs of these streets.
We look forward to the successful completion of this project, which will create stronger connections between existing streets, public spaces, and facilities in Carrick-on-Suir. This investment will help secure the town’s long-term vitality, viability, and vibrancy by delivering a safer, more attractive, and distinctive urban environment that encourages tourism and enhances the overall experience for residents and visitors alike.
